Vaccinations in Coorparoo — Childhood, Adult & Travel
Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and your family from serious illness. At Coorparoo Clinic, we offer a full range of immunisation services, from routine childhood and adult vaccines to comprehensive travel medicine consultations — including Yellow Fever vaccination for international travellers.
Please note: No vaccinations are available on Saturday mornings.
Childhood immunisations
The Australian Immunisation Schedule provides free vaccines for children at key ages, from birth through to adolescence. These protect against diseases including diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), and more.
If you are not sure whether your child is up to date, your GP can check their immunisation history via the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) and advise on any catch-up vaccines needed.
Adult immunisations
Immunity from some childhood vaccines can wane over time, and certain vaccines are recommended for adults at specific life stages. Your GP can advise on:
- Influenza (flu) vaccine — recommended annually, particularly for those over 65, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions
- COVID-19 boosters as recommended under the current national schedule
- Shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine — recommended for adults aged 50 and over
- Pneumococcal vaccine — recommended for adults aged 65 and over, and for younger adults with certain health conditions
- Tetanus boosters — recommended every ten years for adults
- Hepatitis A and B vaccination for adults not previously immunised
Some vaccines are funded under the National Immunisation Program for eligible groups. Your GP can clarify which vaccines may be free of charge for you.
Travel vaccinations and travel medicine
If you are travelling internationally, a pre-travel health consultation is recommended well in advance of your departure — ideally six to eight weeks before you leave, as some vaccines require multiple doses given over time.
During a travel medicine consultation, your GP will:
- Review your itinerary, accommodation style, and planned activities
- Assess your personal health history and current immunisation status
- Recommend vaccines appropriate to the destinations and risks involved
- Provide information about malaria prevention, food and water precautions, insect protection, and altitude illness where relevant
- Discuss medications such as antimalarials or travellers’ diarrhoea treatment that may be appropriate for your trip
Yellow Fever — accredited clinic
Coorparoo Clinic is accredited to provide Yellow Fever vaccination, as authorised under the International Health Regulations and the Australian Government’s yellow fever vaccination centre network. Yellow Fever vaccination is a requirement for entry to some countries and a recommendation for others depending on travel risk.
Speak to Dr Mark Fletcher for pre-travel advice and Yellow Fever vaccination. Dr Fletcher has a particular interest in travel medicine and can help you prepare comprehensively for international travel. An International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) will be issued following Yellow Fever vaccination, as required for border crossing in countries that mandate it.
For current country requirements, the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care maintains an up-to-date list of destinations where Yellow Fever vaccination is required or recommended.
Occupational vaccinations
Certain occupations — including healthcare, childcare, aged care, and laboratory work — may require specific vaccinations. Your GP can advise on occupational immunisation requirements and arrange any needed vaccines.
Pre-pregnancy immunisations
Certain vaccines are recommended before pregnancy to protect both you and your baby. These may include rubella, varicella, whooping cough, and influenza. A pre-pregnancy review with your GP can confirm your immunisation status and arrange any vaccines needed before you conceive.
