Dr Shimali Fernando is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) with over 18 years of experience in general practice. She holds a Diploma of Sexual Health Medicine and brings a warm, inclusive approach to the full range of GP care for patients at Coorparoo Clinic.
Dr Fernando has a strong interest in women’s health across all life stages — from adolescence and reproductive health through to pregnancy and beyond. She is an accredited Shared Antenatal Care provider through Mater Mothers Hospital, meaning she may be able to support patients through their pregnancy journey in partnership with their specialist obstetric team.
Her Diploma of Sexual Health Medicine informs her approach to contraception counselling, family planning, and sexual health screening. She takes care to ensure that consultations are conducted in a manner that is respectful, non-judgmental and attentive to each patient’s individual circumstances.
Dr Fernando also provides general chronic disease management and preventative health care. She consults in both English and Sinhalese, which may be helpful for patients who feel more comfortable discussing health concerns in Sinhalese.
